More Than We Can Imagine

When life surprises us with overwhelming blessings, we can find comfort in the God who provides for what He creates.

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory.

My dear friend, have you ever felt completely overwhelmed by life? Sometimes it’s through hardship, but sometimes, it’s through a blessing so large it takes your breath away and leaves you wondering, 'How will I ever manage this?' I read a story today from Brisbane, Australia, that beautifully illustrates this feeling. A mother, Jenitar Na’amoana, who already had four children, gave birth to four more—identical quadruplets, a one-in-15-million miracle.

Can you imagine the moment the doctor told them? The shock, the disbelief, and perhaps a wave of fear mixed with awe. Their family doubled in an instant. This wasn't in their plans. Life suddenly became immeasurably more than they had asked for or imagined. It is in moments like these, whether of joy or trial, that our hearts can feel unsteady. We look at our own resources, our own strength, and we know they are not enough.

In these moments, let us remember the quiet, creative work of God. The psalmist whispers a profound truth: "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." Think of those four baby girls, knit together from a single cell. What medical science calls a statistical anomaly, faith sees as a breathtaking display of God’s wonderful work. He was not surprised. He was intimately involved in every moment, just as He is in the details of your life.

The same God who performs such wonders does not then abandon His creation to fend for itself. The Apostle Paul offers this comforting assurance: "Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory." The Na’amoana family now needs a van that can hold ten or twelve people. Their needs are immense, but the God who gave them this astonishing gift is the same God who provides. His power is at work, and He is able to do more than we can even think to ask.

Perhaps your life feels like 'immeasurably more' right now. Maybe it’s a new responsibility, a sudden change, or a challenge that feels too big for you. Take heart. The God who knit you together knows your needs. The God whose plans are grander than our own is also the God of gentle provision. Let us rest in the comfort that He who creates is also He who sustains, and His grace is sufficient for the day He has made.
