Dear friend, as I sit with this news from the Big Church festival near Steyning, my heart aches for all those touched by the sudden tragedy. Pastor Robert Guanco, a 41-year-old beloved leader from Jesus Living Water church in Eastbourne, was there celebrating faith, worship, and community when a large wooden sign—bearing the words 'Everything’s Unmissable'—was toppled by strong winds. It fell, claiming his life instantly and injuring six others, four of whom needed hospital care. Festivalgoers rushed to lift the heavy structure, but the damage was done. The event, the UK's largest Christian gathering, was canceled in heartbreak, with organizers, police, and even the Archbishop of Canterbury expressing deep sorrow and prayers for the family, friends, and witnesses.

The tribute from his church paints a picture of a man whose life shone with Christ's love: a faithful servant of God, loving husband to Isay, devoted father to Ellie, mentor, friend, and blessing to so many. They speak of his humility, faith, compassion, and service—qualities that touched lives through ministry, kindness, prayers, and encouragement. In moments like these, we turn to the unchanging Word of God, where we find the tender assurance that our heavenly Father sees every tear. Psalm 34:18 tells us, 'The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.' Right now, as Isay holds her children close, as his church family gathers in quiet grief, as festival staff process the shock, the Lord is near—not distant in the storm, but intimately close, binding up wounds we cannot see.
